This was a bittersweet project. We really worked hard and ultimately our work was rejected... and then copied by the wining bid.
But we learned a lot and enjoyed the process. Rangers in particular are simply great to work with.
Recreation.gov is basically a booking engine for every national park in the country. We were asked to mock up some flows for how it might be improved and how dynamic upsells might work. What we didn't know is that by submitting our work for consideration, we were effectively giving over our intellectual property to whoever was the lowest bid.
